Gonzi highlights electoral programme benefits for Gozo
The Prime Minister's fifth visit to Gozo centered on the PN's electoral programme.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi this evening held a public discussion in Gharb, Gozo. The major theme was the potential benefits of the PN's electoral programme on Malta's sister island.
"Our electoral programme focuses on creating more jobs in Gozo, for Gozitans," Gonzi said.
This is the Prime Minister's second visit in less than a week to the all important 13th district, which returned three out of a possible five seats to the PN in the 2008 general election.
"We have never come to Gozo empty handed," Gonzi once again emphasised, to an enthusiastic applause.
Speaking about healthcare, Gonzi mentioned the possibility of attracting more health tourism to Gozo.
"Health tourism is a new niche for our country. It is our duty to provide top quality health care to all our citizens."
Gonzi mentioned the PN's business initiatives geared towards Gozo.
"Entrepreneurs starting up a business in Gozo shall receive a three year tax holiday. Any new businesses employing a minimum of two people shall receive a €200,000 tax credit."
On education Gonzi said, "stipends are an investment for our country, and this investment reaps a visible reward. The fact that students' receive a stipend helps them continue their studies and better themselves. Under the PN's proposal, stipends will receive a pro-rata COLA adjustment."
"The PN's tablet proposal is for an educational tool to be given to teachers and students alike. This tool will be used for learning and not for games."
The Prime Minister reiterated his promise to build a permanent link between Malta and Gozo if it proves to be feasible.
Referring to the PN's energy policy, Gonzi said that the country stands to gain once the interconnector to Sicily is completed.
"Gozitan hotels, restaurants and families will all benefit massively from the PN's night tariffs."
