Italian wanted for murder to be extradited
A man, wanted by Italian police in connection to a murder investigation is expected to be extradited to Rome, after he exhausted his last attempts to prolong his stay in Malta.
Giuseppe Lauretta, 42 from Novara (pictured) was arrested two weeks ago by the Maltese police is wanted by the Italian authorities in connection with the murder of 35-year-old businessman Ettore Marcoli in Novara, in January 2010.
Following Lauretta’s arraignment and immediate agreement to be extradited, Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna ordered he be returned to Italy, however Lauretta filed an appeal whereby he raised a pending case before the Gozo Courts regarding the illegal use of a telephone.
In a ruling delivered yesterday eving, Judge Lawrence Quintano who presided over the appeals court dismissed the appeal on grounds that the case in Gozo had nothing to do with the one in Italy.
Judge Quintano ordered that Lauretta be extradited to Italy within 10 days.
Police Inspector Mario Cuschieri prosecuted.
