Ministerial investigation launched into deleted enforcement orders

A ministerial investigation was launched today into the deletion of over 1,200 MEPA enforcement orders.

The government has announced that a ministerial investigation was launched into the deletion of over 1,200 MEPA enforcement orders.

In January, MaltaToday revealed that a police probe was launched nto massive deletion of enforcement data on planning abuses on server of Malta Environment and Planning Authority

The police probe had been requested by MEPA chief executive Johann Buttigieg, after 1,200 enforcement orders were found to have been deleted from the MEPA server: the deletions took place before the March 2013 general elections.

As the police investigation is ongoing, the parliamentary secretariat for planning announced the ministerial investigation was launched to investigate the process and the system.

The parliamentary secretariat said action will be taken against those who had been administratively responsible of the deletion of the files.

Further action to avoid a repetition of such a case will be taken.
