‘Untouchable Busuttil fails to be transparent’ – Labour

Labour dubs Simon Busuttil ‘the untouchable’, condemn his lack of transparency over direct orders awarded to Busuttil’s law firm.

The Labour Party has criticised the stance taken by Opposition leader Simon Busuttil over direct orders amounting to thousands of euros awarded to Busuttil’s law firm under the previous administration.

While Busuttil has refused to confirm the award of the direct orders, the leader of the Opposition hit out at Muscat, calling him a “Super One journalist”. But in a counter reaction, the PL said Busuttil was portraying himself as an “untouchable”.

“[He] wants to attack others but he fails to be transparent on the value of contracts he took under the Nationalist administration,” the PL said.

It added that Busuttil should be honest with the people and declare the value of contracts his legal firm received when he was a Member of the European Parliament, a special delegate to the then Prime Minister and deputy leader of the PN.

“A leader of the opposition must be accountable before the citizens. Instead of being honest he has now come up with a new theory claiming that a government that criticises the opposition, especially its leader, was regressive in a democracy,” Labour said.

The PL reiterated that Busuttil took around €421,000 from one ministry, thousands of which were through direct orders: “These were taxpayers’ money and he must shoulder responsibility.”
