The private sector should be left to operate freely without government intervention, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said this morning.

Visiting the Price Waterhouse Coopers' premises on the outskirts of Qormi, Busuttil said that without government interference, businesses can flourish with the entrepreneurship and sense of direction of the private sector.

"PWC is existing proof of how the private sector can flourish, and also of how this niche was not negatively affected with the EU accession ten years ago as was previously feared by some," Busuttil said.

The Nationalist leader reiterated his appeal to the government to undertake diversification of the economy, mentioning the digital gaming and creative economy sectors.

After briefly meeting the company's employees, Busuttil had a meeting with the board of directors behind closed doors.
