The first meeting of an audit board tasked with scrutinising the Nationalist Party’s financial and operational performance was held today in the presence of PN leader Simon Busuttil and party Secretary General Chris Said.

In a statement, the PN explained that the board, which is chaired by Franz Wirth, is tasked with overseeing the party’s financial and administrative performance.

The party is believed to be suffering from a deficit of millions, owing to an ambitious construction project for its new HQ that led to the outsourcing of several of the party's operations.

“The board is another step aimed at leading the party to be run on professional lines,” the party said.

In his first comments, Simon Busuttil described the board’s chairman and its members - Malcolm Custo’, Isabelle Vella, Eugenio Privitelli and Mario Galea – as competent and experienced.

The appointment was made following recent amendments to the party statute.
