Government to launch national integration policy in 2015

Social Dialogue and Civil Liberties minister Helena Dalli says government has created an unit to assess the integration of migrants in Malta

Government will launch a national policy on the integration of migrants in Malta in 2015, Social Dialogue and Civil Liberties minister Helena Dalli said in reply to a Parliamentary Question by opposition MP Claudette Buttigieg.

Dalli explained that while pushing for a pan-European integration plan, government has embarked on a project, ‘Mind the Gap: Together we can make the difference’ which will lead to the creation of a national policy.

The €108,000 project, which is co-funded by the EU, aims at the publication of a National Report for an Integration Strategy which will identify the gap in the current admission procedure of Third Country Nationals in Malta and the need for stronger coordination between the authorities acting as front liners in this process.

The national report  will look at re-assessing from a Legislative, Policy and Practical perspective the current processes existing in Malta and pave the way to the development of an Integration Strategy with the ultimate aim to ensure better conditions for the integration of migrants.

Dalli said an official has been appointed to assess the integration of migrants and a unit has been created to strengthen the process.
