The Nationalist Party has demonstrated its gender equality policies is based on more than just talk, said PN leader Simon Busuttil during a meeting with the National women’s council earlier today.

“The meeting showed that PN believes that women’s role in society is essential,” a statement issued after the meeting reads. It added that the party had also demonstrated this attitude by beefing up the presence of women so that there was an equal number of men and women working for the PN.

“Both the committees and representatives of the general council within the executive committee have an equal representation of genders,” Busuttil pointed out.

He added that even the shadow cabinet is made up of five men and five women and that the party has a female general secretary for the first time in history.

The president of the national council for women, Mary Gaerty praised the changes within the party and maintained that she hoped these changes would result in more female representation in Parliament.

PN general secretary Rosette Thake, Speaker for Citizens’ rights Clyde Puli and President of the PN women’s movement Marion Pace Asciak were also present at the event.
