The foreign affairs ministry clarified that Adviser for Consular Affairs, Salvino Giusti’s pay was €28,420 every year rather than every four weeks.

The ministry said it was mistaken in its reply to a parliamentary question on Monday evening, and that the speaker of the House has been notified of the mistake.

It added that Giusti - a former ambassador to Libya under Dom Mintoff's premiership - also received €59,261 every year as Post Adjustment Allowance, given that he is serving in Australia.

The information emerged in a reply to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Kristy Debono.

Foreign Minister George Vella said his ministry used the services of nine consultants engaged as persons of trust. Giusti was engaged as a person of trust on 1st  February 2014.
