Opposition leader Simon Busuttil’s assertions should be taken with a pinch of salt, according to the Labour party, who accused Busuttil of having double standards.

In a press statement, the Labour party said that Busuttil was quick to call the case of Joe Cassar – who acquired a car from developer Joe Gaffarena against a ‘donation’ to the Nationalist party – a distraction.

This response, the statement reads, is similar to Busuttil’s reaction to the oil scandal, which he called a smokescreen, the Gozo ‘work for votes’ scandal and the issue of Mater Dei’s faulty concrete.

“The leader of the Opposition continues defending Claudio Grech and Francis Zammit Dimech,” the statement reads. “He also gave Giovanna Debono the Opposition’s time in parliament to defend herself.”

“The Maltese people have taken note of Busuttil’s double standards, how he talks about honest politics and institutionalized corruption without taking steps against those around him.

“The population knows Busuttil cannot be taken seriously.”
