Members of the Armed Forces of Malta will receive a €10.50 allowance for every hour of overtime they work during Malta’s six-month stint at the helm of the presidency of the EU Council.

Soldiers will receive the allowance for exceeding their 48-hour workweek after the government and the General Workers’ Union signed an agreement, which will be effective until the end of Malta’s presidency in June.

National security minister Carmelo Abela noted that members of the AFM are never paid overtime despite often being required to work additional hours.
