Malta International Airshow cancelled for second year in a row

MEP says Malta Aviation Society was not finding support to organise airshow

Nationalist MEP Francis Zammit Dimech has expressed disappointment that the Malta International Airshow had to be cancelled for the second consecutive year.

"This is a niche that affects many Maltese aviation enthusiasts, families who await this appointment to take their children to watch the show and attracts many high-quality tourists to our country," he said.

Zammit Dimech said that “It is a pity that in recent months we have repeatedly heard how the Malta Aviation Society was not finding any support to organise the airshow.”

The former tourism minister said that there had always been support for the activity under the Nationalist administration. "The airshow was organised one year after another without ever missing an edition and that when the Malta Aviation Society had asked for help, I had offered support for the activity to become an annual event in the tourism calendar."

Zammit Dimech said that that in Konrad Mizzi's two years as tourism minister, the airshow not been organised for two consecutive years. "I will be offering full support so that airshow will once again become an annual appointment under a new Nationalist government for the benefit of aviation enthusiasts, the Maltese and Gozitan families and all those working in the tourism sector."
