George Vella resigns from Labour Party

The former foreign minister is to be sworn in as the tenth President of the Republic on Thursday

Presidential nominee Minister George Vella has formally resigned from the Labour Party in light of his nomination as Malta’s next President.

The former Foreign Minister will be sworn in as President next Thursday.

The Labour Party said in a short statement on Saturday, that Vella and his wife Miriam, had formally informed the party that they would no longer remain party delegates and members for correctness sake.

The party said it had accepted Vella’s request, while thanking him for his work over the years.
