[WATCH] Segmenting oranges

Oranges are great to use in salads, however the membrane can be a little bitter. Remove the membranes to make your salads look like they were created by a professional! Watch Sean Gravina slice through those orange segments with the ease of a pro.

Segmenting oranges

Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • Coarse salt
  • Pinch rosemary, finely chopped

Method

  1. Cut the top and tail off of the orange.
  2. Carefully slice the peel away from the orange including the bitter pith (the white part).
  3. Careful not to cut your fingers (or hands), make a slice into the orange segment as close to the membrane as you can until you reach the centre of the orange.
  4. Cut along the next membrane to the centre of the orange and a segment of flesh should fall away from the orange.
  5. Repeat until all segments have been removed.
  6. Squeeze the remaining juice over the top.
  7. Sprinkle orange segments with coarse sea salt and finely chopped rosemary.
