Printed by Miranda Publishers, Fil-Kcina ma’ Pippa features a number of classic recipes used by Maltese home cooks. When she got married, she could just about boil an egg, however a keen interest in everything food-related has taken her on a journey through many a Maltese kitchen where she has collected a selection of recipes in her book 25 Years In A Maltese Kitchen, which was originally published in 2003. These much-loved recipes are now available in Maltese, translated by Tony Barbaro Sant.

In her recipes, Pippa Mattei advocates the use of fresh local ingredients and therefore it was no surprise that the launch of her cookbook was held at the Farmers Market this morning (Saturday), where was available for book signing or to answer any culinary questions. Mattei said she is a frequent visitor of the Farmers market and often gets asked about her recipes. “Culinary terms are very specific and many Maltese people are happier to follow recipes in Maltese rather than English, which is what led me to get the translation done. I am hoping to reach a wider audience with the new book,” she said.

Pippa Mattei has also written another cookbook, Pippa’s Festa – in English – for which she received a Gourmand World Cookbook Award in 2010. She took home first prize in the Entertainment category out of a total of 154 participating countries in 41 categories.

Pippa Mattei is also a resident chef on Gourmet Today TV as well as Gourmet Today magazine, where she features many of her recipes from both of her cookbooks along with a selection of new recipes. Gourmet Today TV airs on TVM every Friday at 18:40.
