A grand arrival – Steinway & Sons makes its Maltese debut at Brincat Pianos Ltd

Brincat Pianos has officially welcomed Steinway & Sons to Malta, becoming the island’s first authorised dealer of the famous piano brand

Steinway & Sons, the world’s most prestigious piano manufacturer, has formally arrived in Malta. Brincat Pianos marked the milestone on Saturday 23 May with an exclusive launch event at its Naxxar showroom, officially introducing the brand to the island as its first authorised dealer.

The evening brought together distinguished guests from the Steinway & Sons family and figures from Malta’s cultural, artistic and business communities, including the Head of Economic Affairs from the German Embassy, Olaf Rieck. The programme featured an exclusive live performance by Steinway artist Maurizio Moretti, whose recital celebrated the extraordinary craftsmanship that has defined the Steinway name for over 170 years. Local pianist Gabi Sultana and young pianists Andy Falzon and Emma Kate Mifsud also shared live performances.

For Brincat Pianos, the appointment is both a professional and personal landmark. “Bringing Steinway & Sons to Malta has taken months of planning and is part of a broader, long-term vision to revolutionise the industry and invest in local culture,” says Diane Brincat, founder of Brincat Pianos Ltd. “These are the instruments that grace the world’s finest concert halls and conservatories – and from today, they have a permanent home on our island.”

The launch builds on a family legacy already more than 65 years in the making. Diane’s grandfather, Saviour Brincat, played and restored pianos in the 1960s, an interest that inspired a paint and varnish business and later expanded into piano retail. Opening their first showroom in Pietà in 1991, the Brincat family continued piano retail operations for decades under the management of Diane’s father, Gregory, and aunt, Josette, before Diane, as the third generation, formalised the venture as Brincat Pianos Ltd in 2024.

Alongside the exclusive Steinway & Sons dealership, the company also makes available pianos from celebrated manufacturers C. Bechstein and Blüthner, with a focus on bringing quality instruments to music lovers across Malta’s homes and stages. In another first for the island, Brincat Pianos’ wide piano portfolio also includes a new, handpicked Steinway Model D Concert Grand Piano, available for event and concert hire.

Brincat Pianos operates from a purpose-built space in Naxxar, open by appointment and designed as a piano experience centre rather than a conventional showroom. Diane’s plans also include adding a professional recording studio within the facility, in keeping with her wider vision of creating a cultural hub for Malta’s music community.

“A piano is a personal and long-lasting purchase, often passed down as a family heirloom,” Diane adds. “What matters is finding the right instrument within your budget – one that delights you and represents quality. With Steinway & Sons now part of our showroom, we can offer Maltese music lovers something that, until recently, meant travelling abroad to find.”
