In Malta, 350 Maltese and Gozitan students will be participating in this ultimate dance experience. This global record breaker to create the largest multi-location dance routine ever will be performed at St George's Square, Valletta.

This event is part of the celebrations to mark the British Council's 75th anniversary in Malta. Big Dance is organised in collaboration with the Dance Studies division, Mediterranean Institute at the University of Malta, Maltese Olympic Committee and St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity.

Big Dance is the world's largest dance programme. Founded in 2006 by the Mayor of London in partnership with Arts Council England, Big Dance is London's Legacy Trust UK programme.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: "Not everyone can compete at the Games, but we want as many people in London and across the world as possible to feel a part of this incredible year. I'm delighted to support Big Dance, which is already hugely popular in the capital and a fantastic way to join in the 2012 celebrations. Even if the youngsters taking part in this exciting event won't be competing for medals, it is a unique chance to aim for a new world record, which I hope will inspire them to participate long after the Games are over."

Big Dance is the world's biggest and most influential dance initiative. It is a vibrant, high profile campaign to get everyone taking part - wherever they are, whatever their age, experience or ability. Over two million people have taken part in Big Dance since it began, with events taking place in unusual locations including shopping centres, parks, bridges, sports centres, beaches, bandstands, bunkers, swimming pools, schools, in streets and public squares.

Wayne McGregor, Artistic Director of Wayne McGregor/Random Dance and Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet, has created the five minute choreography for this world record attempt.

The current world record for the largest simultaneous multi-venue dance is held by the Netherlands, with 1,472 locations and 264,188 people dancing.
