A pod of eight dolphins joined an incredibly lucky group of stand up paddlers, who were paddling at Fomm ir-Rih.

In footage uploaded on Facebook and YouTube, the paddlers capture the dolphins on camera, jumping out of the water and diving with them.

“Today we had the most incredible experience when at one point we were surrounded with dolphins... just when we thought our already awesome day couldn’t get better,” the Stand Up Paddling group said on its Facebook page.

Despite it already being a challenge to stand up whilst paddling, one paddler actually managed to film the amazing experience.

The paddlers recounted being surrounded by the dolphins, which gave them “a tremendous show”.

“I have been going to this location all my life and this is the first time I have seen dolphins in this area,” Malta SUP Sea Treks owner Henry Copperstone recounted. “They were extremely playful and actually flirting with us and the boat owners that were also following them. They were jumping and even waving their tails at us... never saw anything like it.”

Copperstone urged bathers to appreciate the sea and “to take care of it so maybe we can have more of these amazing experiences”.
