Thief arrested after getting trapped inside coffee shop

British man who repeatedly raided a coffee shop in St Julian’s arrested and arraigned after the shop's back door snapped shut, locking man inside.

British national Jake Sebastian Morris was granted bail until the final judgement is read on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to various thefts from a coffee shop in Baystreet, St Julian's.

Yesterday, the staff at Caffe' Pascucci at the Baystreet Complex found the 38-year-old man inside the rear part of the shop after the entrance used by staff and security had snapped shut, locking Morris inside.

Having noted the door being left open by the staff, the accused had carried out a number of beer bottles, but when he returned for more the door snapped shut, trapping him inside the shop.

In January, the shop was raided twice, in which a number of alcohol bottles and cash had gone missing. The owners had CCTV footage of the culprit, however he could not be found.

After Morris was apprehended, the police played back the security footage and identified the man in the CCTV recording as the accused.

Prosecuting inspector Trevor Micallef, today arraigned the British resident over the three thefts.

Jake Sebastian Morris pleaded guilty to the charges and was granted bail until final judgement. Magistrate Gabriella Vella will deliver judgement on Thursday.
