Bulgarian denied bail after breaking man's jaw

Magistrate turned down the defence’s request for bail, citing the fact that the victim was yet to testify

A Bulgarian man was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to breaking another man’s jaw in a brawl last Sunday.

Yuliyan Borislavov Toskov, 39, who resides at Marsascala, pleaded not guilty to charges of seriously injuring fellow ex-pat Velichko Asenov Dimov in Pjazza Dun Tarcis Agius in Marsascala.

He also pleaded not guilty to breaching the peace.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja turned down the defence’s request for bail, citing the fact that the victim was yet to testify as he was still receiving treatment in hospital.

Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo led the prosecution and lawyer Yana Micallef Stafrace represented Toskov.
