Valletta youths charged with Hamrun brawl

Half-brothers charged with assault using arms improper, threatening the person assaulted and breaching the peace.

Two youths from Valletta have been charged in connection with a brawl in a Hamrun bar, during which a man from Birkirkara was grievously injured by a thrown glass.

Chef Dion Farrugia, 26 and his half-brother Ramsey, a 22 factory worker, were arraigned before Magistrate Audrey Demicoli and charged with assault using arms improper, threatening the person assaulted and breaching the peace. The younger brother was also charged with relapsing.

Inspector Spiridione Zammit accused the youths of throwing a glass at the victim, after a fight broke out at Three Monkeys Bar in Hamrun during the night of the 11th October. The accused had been on police bail since then, the court was told.

Lawyer Arthur Azzopardi, defence counsel to the two youths, entered a plea of not guilty, informing the court that the man injured was also being investigated by the police in connection with the incident, as were other people.

The court granted the men bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €3,000 and ordered them to sign a bail book twice a week.
