Korean man, 42, dies while swimming in Mellieha

A Korean man, resident in Swieqi, died this afternoon after encountering difficulties while swimming in the area known as Tat-Toqba in Mellieha.
Police said that, at around 2.45pm, they were informed the body of a man had been sighted floating in the area, and immediately dispatched a number of units.
Preliminary investigations on site concluded that the 43-year-old man had encountered difficulties while swimming.
A helicopter winched the man up from the sea and delivered him on land, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to Mater Dei hospital.
The man was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The duty magistrate has launched an inquiry. Police investigations are continuing.
