Two men were arrested in Gozo after police caught them in possession of cocaine sachets that were ready for sale.

The men, a 20-year-old Bulgarian national who lives in Marsalforn and a 41-year-old British national resident in Żebbuġ, will be charged with drug trafficking.

They will also be charged with the cultivation of cannabis after police found in their possession cannabis leaves, a plant and seeds.

The police said in a statement that the anti-drug squad stationed in Gozo had been observing the movement of the two men for a whole week.

They were arrested in the night between Thursday and Friday.

Police investigations are ongoing.

This drug bust comes on the back of several others conducted by the police and customs over the past few months.

At the end of November, the police arrested four men after finding 20kg of cannabis in a van in Santa Lucia. In November, the Maltese customs also busted a 40kg cocaine consignment worth €4.5 million smuggled inside a fridge that was in a container heading to Cyprus from Ecuador.

Seven men, including six Italians, were arrested at the start of the month after the police stopped a van that had just arrived by ferry from Sicily with 20kg of cannabis hidden inside.
