Mayor under investigation for fraud

Weekly newspaper Illum reports that a mayor hailing from a locality in the South of Malta is under investigation by Police in connection with two cases of fraud.

Illum reports that the cases led to "substantial losses" for two lotto outlets separately.

The cases are implicating the mayor in question as a person who used his influence so that the owners of the lotto outlets trusted a third person, and extended credit of thousands of euros.

The mayor's name has emerged as a common element in both cases of fraud that are currently under investigation.
