Engine failure causes French Atlantique emergency landing at MIA

A French Air Force Atlantique surveillance aircraft made an emergency landing at Malta International Airport last night.

The aircraft – that is equipped with hight-tech radars – was operational over the Gulf of Sirte as part of the Libya campaign in enforcing a UN mandated no-fly zone over Libya.

According to military sources, the aircraft developed serious difficulties in flight when two of its four turbo-prop engines stopped.

The aircraft and its crew landed safely at MIA at around 1:30am while emergency services were on high alert.
