Police used taser on migrants during riot
Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit confirmed that a taser was used to disable two migrants who were violent during Tuesday’s short-lived riot at the Hal Far Detention Centre. The two remained violent even after the other protesters gave up and Zammit defended the actions of the police, saying that their approach toward the situation was measured and justified.

Deputy leader of the PN Beppe Fenech Adami has called on the Prime Minister to take responsibility for his political interference in police work and that Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit should resign from his post for allowing thiat to happen.

Professionals tampered with smart meters
An engineer with Enemalta, Charles Scerri, told Magistrate Carol Peralta in court yesterday that an expert from Italian energy company Enel had conducted tests on tampered with smart meters and concluded that the job had been done by professionals. The witness was testifying against two fitters who are being charged with bribery related to the installation of such smart meters.

EC awaits EIA before commenting on LNG storage plans
The European Commission will not reveal its position on the issue of the LNG storage plans until it has received an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) from the Maltese government. Sources close to the Commission said that it was monitoring developments in the area but need more information about the tanker's effect on its surroundings.
