Over 600 cases of theft uncovered in Enemalta files

An Enemalta employee has come forward about a number of files hidden in an abandoned room at Enemalta. In total, 665 case files were discovered, detailing the theft of an estimated €2 million in electricity, between 2006 and 2011. The police had investigated and identified the thieves but no one was charged. Culprits include hotels and one particular case refers to a theft of over €100,000.

Migrants detained at the Hal Far Detention Centre caused a disturbance during a visit by MPs. Police used rubber bullets and tasers and eventually brought the situation under control. No one was injured.

PN calls on government to take action on each theft case

The PN called on Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi to take action on every single theft case that comes to light, ensuring the Enemalta recoups all the money it is due. This followed the news that some 665 newly discovered cases of electricity theft had come to light.

A 2% growth in GDP in 2013 augurs well for the coming two years, according to a report by the European Commission. It predicts stable growth, a reduction of the deficit and an increase in employment.

Medical Association does not intend to take over nurses’ management

Secretary general of the MAM Martin Balzan stated that the association has not been officially consulted by the government about the proposed Strategic Business Unit at hospital. He also said that the MAM would not accept the final decision without discussions.
