Olaf Cini sentenced to four more years in jail after admitting €80,000 scam

Serial fraudster Olaf Cini, 50 of Paola was this morning sentenced to four more years in jail after admitting to defrauding six people out of a total of €80,000.

Cini – who was charged by Economic Crimes Unit Inspector Ivan Cilia – admitted to taking money from a number of people and promising to pay them back once he receives his funds from abroad.

Cini defaulted repeatedly on his payments and never paid up his dues, and was subsequently reported to the police and charged.

He admitted he could never pay back the money once the police established he never had any foreign accounts.

Cini - who is currently detained at Corradino Prisons and was expected to be released next January - has served a number of years in prison over a string of offences related to fraud, while he was also charged with bigamy.

Magistrate Edwina Grima presided.
