It was the Office of the Prime Minister that handled the production of his video message for the New Year, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat confirmed in a parliamentary question raised by Nationalist MP Clyde Puli.

Muscat said that the couple that featured in the video were “not actors”.

The young couple became the most discussed feature of the video after it transpired that they probably did not benefit from the government’s tax-exemption scheme for first-time home buyers because they purchased their property in 2008.

The Agius couple was outed by the press as scions of the Construct Furniture firm.
