New Enemalta acting chairperson appointed

William Spiteri Bailey has been appointed Enemalta’s acting chairperson as from 1 January 2011, replacing Edmund Gatt Baldacchino who was appointed on 1 June.

Like Gatt Baldacchino, Spiteri Bailey is occupying the post until a replacement for the former Enemalta chairman Alex Tranter is found.

In a statement announcing the appointment, the Finance Minsiter said that “due to his personal business commitments, Gatt Baldacchino is unable to continue contributing the necessary time required by such an important Corporation.”

A director on Enemalta’s board of director, Spiteri Bailey is also a managing partner for Spiteri Bailey & Co. and, according to the company’s website, is a general practice partner servicing clients ranging from sole traders to partnerships and from co-operatives to companies.

“He has an all round grasp and knowledge of commercial affairs in the Malta and he is routinely involved in raising finance for clients, advising on corporate structures and preparing business plans and feasibility studies.”

Spiteri Bailey’s specialist areas are property companies, general trading companies, unions and family businesses and International Trade, and is presently a member of the Council of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Minister of Finance, the Economy and Investment Tonio Fenech, thanked Gatt Baldacchino for his dedication and efforts on Enemalta's Board of Directors throughout the past five years, first as a member, eventually as a Deputy Chairperson and finally as Acting Chairperson.
