Wounded-in-action constable Simon Schembri to be promoted to Sergeant

The police constable who was horrifically maimed under 17-year-old Liam Debono's car will be granted a promotion to Sergeant by Interior Minister Michael Farrugia and Commissioner of Police Lawrence Cutajar

Simon Schembri, former police constable who was permanently disabled and lost an arm when 17-year old Liam Debono ran over him last year, will be made Police Sergeant.

The youth who maimed the 48-year-old constable stands charged with attempted murder and is out on bail after pleading not guilty to the charges.

Schembri was rewarded for his work last year, having been granted the award for Police Officer of the Year in 2018 and presented the Republic Day honour of the Midalja ghall-Qadi tar-Repubblika by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca late last year.

The news was shared on the Facebook Page, Simon Schembri Blue Light Foundation.

The Minister for Internal Affairs Michael Farrugia and Commissioner of Police Larence Cutajar will present Simon Schembri with his new role on January 21.
