Tug Malta employee seriously injured at Freeport

A Tug Malta employee had to be hospitalised after he sustained serious injuries in an accident at Freeport, Birzebbugia, Police have said.

The employee, a 61-year old man from Marsascala, was on a tug boat pulling a larger sea vessel when the hawser snapped and hit the smaller boat.

The other man onboard, a 36-year old Xghajra resident, sustained no injuries.

Police went on site, as well as a medical team that offered immediate assistance and treatment. A Freeport spokesperson had earlier released a statement saying that the injured man was a Tug Malta employee and that he was offered immediate assistance.

The Police, together with Freeport and Tug Malta are investigating the incident.
