Seven more die this week as floods continue in Italy

New flood warnings issued by Italian authorities as death toll and flood levels continue to rise.

New safety warnings have been issued by Italian authorities as storms and torrential rain continue to rage across Italy. Italy’s longest river, River Po, rose by 4 metres (13 fee) in the city of Turin. Thousands were told to evacuate.

This week’s country-wide death toll has risen to at least seven with another person’s death in Naples. A man was also killed in Pozzuoli, north of Naples when a tree fell on his car.

Over the last two weeks, heavy rains have hit the country particularly in the north-west.

Turin and Milan’s schools were ordered to close on Monday as a precaution and thousands have been told to leave their homes in low-lying areas near Turin.

The government declared a state of emergency last week in the north-western Liguria region and Tuscany.

At least 10 people were killed as storms struck coastal regions causing widespread flooding and mudslides.
