Updated | Facebook service returns

Users all over the world were briefly unable to sign in to the social network, causing an outpouring of complaints and concern on other social networks

Social network users worldwide breathed a collective sigh of relief as Facebook once again became operational. Users were unable to sign in to Facebook for several minutes. Many took to Twitter to report the issue.

Users reported an error message that appears after attempting to login. A link beneath the notice simply refreshed the page. Both desktop and mobile platforms appeared to be suffering the outage.

There has been no statement from Facebook at this time. The outage is the longest the site has ever suffered.

Mark Zuckerburg had been famously quoted as saying that the site would never crash or go down, as evidenced in this clip from the movie 'The Social Network'.
