Two jailed over breaching bail

Man jailed for two months after pleading guilty of breaching bail conditions, while another man is remanded in custody after denying carrying tools potentially used in robberies.

Simon Camilleri, 47 of Bormla and Keith Camilleri, 32 of Qormi, will be spending the festive season in jail after they were arrested in Hamrun and charged with breaching bail conditions.

At around 10:30pm, on 21 December members of the Rapid Intervention Unit apprehended the two men in Hamrun. Knowing the accused were out on bail, the officers stopped the Camilleri's and searched their vehicle. Further more the officers noted that at the time of the arrest the accused were supposed to be inside their residence as part of their bail conditions. The two were also charged with relapsing

The search inside their vehicle revealed as et of two way radios, two screw drivers and other tools potentially usable in break-ins. Having previously been convicted of theft, Simon Camilleri did not give the police a plausible explanation for carrying such paraphernalia.

Keith Camilleri pleaded guilty to breaching bail, however convicted thief Simon Camilleri denied the charge of carrying tools used robberies.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella separated the proceedings and instructed that Simon Camilleri's case follows a compilation of evidence. The accused will remain under preventive arrest.

Meanwhile, having pleaded guilty as charged Keith Camilleri was handed a two month jail term.
