Man pleads not guilty to seriously injuring former girlfriend

Court grants bail to 23-year-old after pleading not guilty to breaking his former girlfriend's arm during an argument

A 23-year-old man from Gzira was today granted bail after pleading not guilty of seriously injuring his former girlfriend and of having broken her arm during an argument in Paceville.

The incident occurred outside the club Gringos, when the accused, Mauro Persiano, got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend, Kelly Fenech. The court heard how the accused could not accept the fact that Fenech had broken the relationship off, and that this was the first time he had seen her since their break up.

An altercation resulted in Fenech's arm being broken.

Persiano was charged with seriously injuring his former girlfriend, of breaching public peace and good order, and of swearing.

He pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Anthony Vella ordered the accused against approaching his former girlfriend and her family, and granted him bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €2,500.

Inspector Sarah Magri testified.
