Somali man jailed after escaping Malta in 2013

Abdurahman Yousuf Adam, 28, was charged with leaving the island without informing the Principal Immigration Officer

A Somali man who had left Malta without informing immigration authorities, fleeing to Italy before being arrested in Germany and returned to Malta, has been jailed for two months.

Inspector Darren Buhagiar arraigned Abdurahman Yousuf Adam, 28, before Magistrate Doreen Clarke this morning, charging him with leaving the island without informing the Principal Immigration Officer.

The man had managed to leave the island in September 2013, heading to first to Italy and later to Germany.

Adam admitted the charges and was sentenced to two months' imprisonment.
