Conditional discharge for man who hit foreigner with broomstick

The court handed a conditional discharge for two years for a Maltese man who hit foreigner with a broomstick.

29-year-old Antnick Tanti was handed a two-year conditional discharge for hitting a foreigner with a broomstick, causing slight injuries. Tanti was not found guilty of threatening the man and breaching public peace.

The incident occurred on 25 September 2014 in St Margarat Street in Siggiewi.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja heard how once the argument broke out, the foreigner, Amir Fareed, had challenged Tanti for a fight.

Fareed did not present the medical letter claiming he suffered from slight injuries. He had told the court how Tanti hit him on the side using a broomstick.

The hit caused the bruising on Fareed’s side.
