Two elderly Britons last night were killed in a head-on collision which also left a young man grievously injured.

The crash took place at about 11:00pm, on Triq ir-Rabat, Nadur, Gozo.

The elderly man, 68, was driving a Suzuki Ignis, accompanied by his wife, 73, both residents of Xaghra. Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team were on the scene to help free the couple from their car, but they were declared dead on the scene.

The young man involved in the accident, a 25-year-old Gozitan from Qala, who was driving a Peugeot Partner, was taken to Gozo General Hospital, where it was determined that he was suffering grievous injuries.

A magisterial inquiry is under way.
