Tourism operators join appeal against pilots’ strike

Travel and Tourism Agents are appealing to Air Malta pilots to reconsider their decision to take strike action.

FATTA (the Federated Association of Travel & Tourism Agents) said that the agency community was fully sympathetic with the plight of Air Malta pilots and employees but that any strike action at this point in time will certainly not resolve anything.

“On the contrary it would definitely compound the precarious situation that the airline is in and compromise the attempts to salvage the company. This would also be a further serious blow to the travel and tourism industry and could have an adverse effect on the industry in general,” the association said in a statement.

The Association said it fully respects any union’s right to manifest its opinions on the state of affairs and the current restructuring process at Air Malta but appeals to ALPA to reconsider their decision and stop short of any action that could culminate in a death knell to the airline.  This would also be a further serious blow to travel and tourism agents and could have a long term adverse effect on the industry in general.

Gheziez MHRA u FATTA, issa qomtu? Ghax ma tkellimtux qabel biex isir xi haga fl-Airmalta? Dear MHRA and FATTA there is a solution for all this hulabaloo you are creating...Go to Castille and speak to that taparsi Prime minister of ours to cancel the 21 euro fee on every seat Airmalta sells. If you do that and the our taparsi Prime minister stops licking his white's ass friends and calls the tax off, the strike will cancelled. If not...HA HA HA HA....KEMM SER TUGAHKHOM RASKOM!!!

If airmalta goes bankrupt is the government's fault who is the major shareholder. No excuses. despita MHRA's and FATTA's long overdue pleas, it seems that it is either everybody drowns or everybody is saved. All for one and one for all.

Please let's not fool ourselves. Killing off KM to spite the govenment looks like the price ALPA is prepared to pay. Somebody has to tell these guys that there will be no ALPA if there is no Air Malta so they shouldn't over estimate their negotiating power. Times have changed because this time round the tax payers money cannot be used to bail out the airline as in the past. At least the present administration looks like it may have found a stooge that, when all is said and done, will ultimately get the major blame for finishing off the ailing airline. It will be a sad day when Air Malta is no longer operating but life goes on, for better or for worse.

ALPA have made it clear that they want a different way of doing things. In their opinion, and I am totally in favour of this, the first step of the re-structuring should be that of re-negotiating the airline's contracts, such as that with the MIA. All of these associations coming out against the strike should instead urge the government to start re-negotiating these contracts and only then ask the pilots to hold off their strike. Otherwise, they are accomplices to the massacre that has been going on for the past 20 years under a nationalist administration. Well done ALPA and UCC for having the guts of doing something. At least it's better than sitting on the fence and doing absolutely nothing but criticising those who are being pro-active. The government should get off its butt and instead of paying hundreds of thousand for fruitless reports start the re-negotiations immediately.

why is it all you hypocrites feeling sorry for Air Malta and sympathetic with the pilots and the rest of the staff now, this massacre on the economy has been going on for the past 20 years and you never said anything. If you want to help Air Malta and the pilots join them in there mission, and stop leaking gonzipn ass.

Quote:'...any action that could culminate in a death knell to the airline'. Isn't Air Malta, unfortunately, already dead?

Get your sorry butts to Castille and tell gonzi to fix things up, stop blaming the pilots and cabin crews. As far as I know, correct me if I am mistaken the pilots gave more thanthe 48 hours notice as required by law. So the ball is in gonzi's court. . It takes two to tango.
