In the Press: PL, PN asked to declare any electoral donations from Gaffarena family

The Labour and Nationalist parties have both failed to reply to questions about having received monetary support from the Gaffarena family, before and after the 2013 general election. While the Labour party offered no reply, a PN spokesman said an answer would be forthcoming once the records were checked.

EU home affairs ministers failed to agree on a redistribution mechanism for 40,000 migrants, with central and eastern EU states pushing for voluntary relocation rather than mandatory quotas. After the meeting in Luxembourg, minister Carmelo Abela expressed hope for the negotiations but said there was still a long way to go to reach agreement.

Shadow minister for justice Jason Azzopardi said that since parliamentary secretary Michael Falzon admitted to meeting and traveling with Mark Gaffarena, this was enough proof to assume that he knew of the Valletta expropriation deal. Azzopardi called for Falzon's dismissal by the PM.

Members of a Google Group, which included employees of the Central Bank, NSO and MFSA, met regularly to discuss Nationalist strategy, usually at the Nationalist headquarters.

The Malta Independent

A Spanish embezzler, Jorge Ignacio Roca Samper, used a Maltese shell company to siphon funds off a Valencia wastewater treatment company. Roca Samper was arrested last week after evading the law for five years.
