32 police officers facing criminal charges, 20 not suspended from force
Home Affairs Minister unable to respond how many convicted police officers still serve within the police force.
32 police officers – four inspectors, six sergeants, and 22 constables – are facing criminal charges in court, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela has revealed.
He was responding to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Beppe Fenech Adami.
Out of these, 20 police officers – three inspectors, two sergeants and 15 constables – haven’t been suspended from the force.
Abela was unable to answer how many police officers who have been found guilty of a crime are still active in the force, arguing that “the information doesn’t exist electronically and that compiling it will take up a lot of time”.
