AD councilors appeal to local councils to show solidarity with refugees

Alternattiva Demokratika’s councilors for Sliema and Attard, Michael Briguglio and Ralph Cassar respectively, will present a motion in their respective councils about solidarity towards war refugees, AD has announced.

“AD is joining in the appeal to encourage local communities to show solidarity towards others going through so much suffering in the region,” a statement reads.

It added that the motion shows that both local councils were aware of the human tragedy befalling Syrian refugees in the Mediterranean, region and Hungary and Austria in particular.

“We are also determined to contribute to the basic principle of solidarity that Malta has always encouraged, and we wish to do our best to ensure that the locality can directly contribute to reducing this problem.”

The motion also points out that the local councils were willing to adopt a Syrian family and help that family until it was capable of taking care of itself.
