In the Press: A record 13,800 residence permits issued in 2014

A record 13,800 residence permits were issued last year, according to Identity Malta figures, with some 3,500 going to Libyan nationals. The National Security Committee is due to meet to discuss the way residence permits are issued, in the wake of the discovery of a scam that saw hundreds obtain permits illegally.

A criminologist has revealed that while there were fewer burglaries from homes in Sliema, St Julians and San Gwann in the first six months of the year, the localities witnessed a spike in pickpocketing incidents over the same period of time.
