Home affairs minister asks social affairs committee to discuss police corps strategy

Home affairs minister Carmelo Abela meets with social affairs committee chairman Anthony Agius Decelis to discuss police corps reform

Home affairs minister Carmelo Abela has asked social affairs committee chairman Anthony Agius Decelis to discuss the police corps strategy.

In a letter sent to Agius Decelis, Abela points out that the strategy is being considered a ‘high level’ one, meaning that there will not be many details available.

“The aim is that discussions do not focus on details at this stage, but that they look at points of principle and a proactive strategy,” Abela said in the letter, adding that he would be willing to be called before the committee alongside other people helping in the process.

Abela went on to ask the committee to present the results of a 2015 questionnaire, that had been distributed amongst Police corps members as part of a consultation process to ensure that the reform reflects the needs of the police.  The questionnaire looked at various themes, ideas, suggestions and complaints.
