Malta's two police unions, the Malta Police Association (MPA) and the Police Officers Union (POU), signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday, agreeing to work together on items of mutual interest.

In a joint statement, the unions said that they have agreed to work together throughout collective bargaining negotiations for members of the police force.

The statement also said that both unions will jointly call on home affairs minister Carmelo Abela to begin negotiations on a new collective agreement for the police force, in order to address the peculiar realities of the police force.

The memorandum of understanding was signed at the office of police commissioner Laurence Cutajar, with assistant commissioner Carmelo Magri also present.
