Customs officers seized a total of $50,000 arriving in a package from China, after the parcel’s shape raised suspicion.

Abnormalities seen during the screening process of the parcel, which was declared to be a 'home and garden item', led customs to carry out a physical check, which resulted in the discovery of five bundles of cash in $100 bills.

The Customs Department has handed over the bundles to the Police economic crime section in order to establish whether the cash is genuine or counterfeit.

The receiver of the packet has been arraigned in order to help in the investigations.
