‘Common’ memories archive established

The fruit of 11 years of work, an archive of Public memories has been set up within the Department of History by historian Dr John Chircop, gathering the experiences and memories of ‘common people' and workers.

In an interview with weekly newspaper Illum, Chircop explains how such memories and accounts of history – rich with an untapped perspective – often fall by the wayside, uncatalogued by historian and therefore lost to the passage of time.

This lacuna of recorded history that details the daily lives, activities and collective memory of the ‘common people’ is detrimental to history and historians as whole, he maintains.
