The Labour Party has presented 59 candidates to contest the local council elections in localities in Gozo. This is a record number of Labour candidates contesting on the sister island.

The candidates were presented in Nadur on Saturday. "I am so proud that we have strengthened Labour's candidature in Gozo," Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said.

He added that he was convinced that they would be good contributors to Labour's administration and that 22% of the candidates were women and 32% of them were under 30 years of age.

Muscat lambasted the Nationalist Party for not presenting enough candidates and accused Delia of using a strategy that would have denied a vote to up to 10,000 Gozitan voters.

"It's unbelievable how the PN, who some time ago had always claimed that Gozo was its stronghold, is unable to find candidates in localities where PN always enjoyed a majority," Muscat said, adding that this "ploy" was offensive to the electorate, including that section that supported the PN.
