In the wake of the government and the opposition engaging in a tit-for-tat battle over the proposed legal notice which would enable the education minister the power to access pupils’ personal data, Reporter on TVM will tomorrow analyse the heavily-debated legal notice.

Legal Notice 76 would enable the minister the education minister and other ministry officials to request private information on pupils attending state schools – data which according to Education Minister Evarist Bartolo will be used for “research purposes and for employment prospects.”

However, the PN has taken exception at the legal notice, accusing the government of “spying” on students – and on Monday the Opposition would be presenting a motion in parliament to revoke the legal notice.

Together with Education Minister Evarist Bartolo, Shadow minister Joe Cassar and Alternattiva spokesman for education Mario Mallia, Reporter host Saviour Balzan will among other issues, discuss the legal notice, whether the information would be truly used for research purposes or if the Opposition’s criticism is justified.

What type of research would the minister be doing with all this data at hand? Why is this legal notice preoccupying parents

The programme is produced and presented by Saviour Balzan, assisted by Fredrick Attard and the MediaToday newsroom.

Reporter is aired live every Monday at 6:55pm on TVM. The programme is repeated on TVM2 on Monday at 10:15pm.
